KANSAS CITY, KS – On Monday, a Catholic priest was taken into custody in Maryland and was charged in Wyandotte County for involvement in sexual offenses with minors.
Last week, the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas announced that Kallal was suspended after he was accused of “boundary violations.” An investigation of the accusations stated that, “violations of some of the Archdiocese’s safe environment guidelines which all clerics, employees and volunteers are asked to observe when interacting with young people.”
On Friday, Rev. Scott Kallal was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
It was added in the statement released by the Archdiocese that Kallal “denies any moral misconduct or malicious intent and has agreed to undergo evaluation and counseling.”
He served Overland Park’s Holy Spirit Church and St. Patrick Church in Kansas City, therefore, it was announced that he is suspended during Masses at the churches.
On Tuesday, it was said in a statement released by the Archdiocese that it will cooperate with law enforcement to investigate the case and will provide the required information. It was added in the statement that any individual with information about priests, deacons or volunteers involving in inappropriate conduct should report their concerns, so the case can be solved before it’s too late.
